Types are a means to split monsters into groups (in a broader way to what Attributes do) in order to enable Support Cards granting various effects, to a specific order of monsters.

Each monster has 1 Type, and there are 23 different legal Types (the 22 listed are the ones allowed on this wiki) in the OCG & TCG, 1 exclusive to Yu-Gi-Oh! The Duelists of the Roses, and 4 made up.

Made-Up Monster Types:

Pixie

Pixie (妖精 Yōsei, Fairy), formerly named Nymph, monsters are a Type introduced by NovaTsukimori, representing actual fairy creatures that are more earthly in nature, like sprites and sylphs, as opposed to the angelic beings of the Fairy-Type. Outside of Archetypes, Pixie-Type monsters tend to play on the mischievous aspects of the fae, being a Type that usually focuses on stalling and sabotaging the enemy, as well as being able to continue their harassment by replacing themselves upon destruction ("floaters", so to speak). Individual Type support is discontinued after Fate of the Duelist, though the archetypes, "Chaos Beast" and "Celestial Nymph" still sees support. This Type is said to return by Boundary of the Duelist under the new name: "Pixie".

Elemental God

Elemental God monsters are a Type introduced by NovaTsukimori. This Type is only used on "Cosmic King Da'at". It alongside its Level 13 status, is used to signify that it is a card above all other cards in the game (save "Horakhty").

Darkness

Darkness is a Type that serves as a counterpart to the Creator God-Type. As of now, the currently only Darkness-Type monster in the Game is "The Darkness".

Cie

Cie is a Type introduced in Yu-Gi-Oh! Crystal-0 and it is used by Luna Yuhoshi.
